Follow Me.
I’ve been reading this book I got from a good friend for my birthday. It’s called “Blue Like Jazz”.
There’s a part in the book where he’s at a concert & the folksinger tells a story of his friend who is a Navy SEAL. His friend was performing a covert operation, freeing hostages in some dark part of the world. They flew by helicopter & found the hostages who had been imprisoned for months. The hostages were all huddled into a corner, completely terrified. The SEALs stood at the door, telling the hostages to follow them, but they wouldn’t as they sat and hid their faces in fear. They weren’t in their right state of mind.
The SEALs stood there not knowing what to do, until one of them had an idea. He took off his helmet, his weapons and curled up next to the hostages, so close that he was touching them. He softened the look on his face and put his arm around them, trying to show that he was one of them. He stayed there for a while until the hostages finally began to look at him. The Navy SEAL then whispered that they were American & were there to rescue them. He asked them, “will you follow us?” He stood to his feet & slowly, the other hostages began to do the same. The story ends with all the hostages safe and back home on American soil.I thought about how that Navy SEAL is like Christ, who came to this world as man, coming down from His throne, taking off His Heavenly garments and royal robes, to be like us, into a dark and broken world, just so He could save us. He whispers, “will you follow Me?” I’m beyond grateful for what Christ did. For saving me that day in 2005; what a blessed journey it has been since then. :)
THANK YOU JESUS =)
